Creating a Content Strategy That Will Grow Your Business
I’ve been super busy this month growing my email list, building my store, and giving my website a facelift that better reflects my services. It’s become nearly overwhelming with how much I’m juggling, but I’ve finally found a decent groove. Now I just need it to become profitable.
I’ve been using a content strategy to help keep me on track and reduce the frequent distractions that grab my attention throughout the day. It’s hard when my inbox bursts with so many awesome opportunities. I give access to a lot of these resources and learning tools on my free email list. And even more resources are available in my online store.
Using a Content Strategy to Manage Business
A content strategy involves creating, publishing, and managing content. It includes your overall goals for the content, who will make it, what kind of content you will create, and when and where you will publish it.
A content strategy ensures that all content is created with a purpose. It helps you be consistent with your messaging and branding and prevents you from wasting time and resources on content that doesn’t serve a purpose. Creating a content strategy doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming.
Follow these six steps to create a content strategy that will help you to grow your business:
Step 1: Define Your Goals
Step 2: Know Your Audience
Step 3: Create Valuable Content
Step 4: Promote Your Content
Step 5: Analyze and Adjust
Step Six: Rinse and Repeat

Step One: Define Your Goals
What do you want the content you publish to achieve? For example, do you want to increase brand awareness, drive traffic to your website, or generate new leads? First, be detailed about the goals of your content, including narrowing down the purpose of one particular piece of content. Then, you want an overall strategy to help you achieve those goals.
My Goal is to grow my audience and increase my clientele through sales at my online store or orders through my freelance website.
Step Two: Know Your Audience
Who do you want to reach with your content? Creating personas for your ideal customers will help you understand their needs and how they like to consume content. Then, with this information in mind, you can create content that appeals to them and speaks to their specific pain points.
My Audience is stay at home (or who want to become stay at home) moms who are looking to increase their income with a small business, side hustle, creative service, online store, affiliate marketing, or passive income.
Step Three: Create Valuable Content
Your content should be interesting and informative, offering value to your audience. Ask yourself if your content is something that people would want to read or watch. Would it help them to solve a problem? Is it entertaining? If not, ditch it and start over.
I wrote this post to make it easy for anyone of any experience level to understand a content strategy and how it’s helpful for your business. I also tried to make it simple to remember the process so it becomes easy to do every time.
Step Four: Promote Your Content
Once you’ve created great content, don’t let it languish on your website or blog. Instead, share your content on social media, email it to your list, and get creative with other promotion strategies. The more people who see it, the more likely your content marketing will achieve your goals.
Did you know I have a Facebook group dedicated to living frugally, naturally, and old-school 1900s style? I’m also active on the ‘Gram, Twitter (I refuse to call it X), and Pinterest. I also offer social marketing and management services! Ask about my availability to reduce your workload.
Step Five: Analyze and Adjust
After you’ve published your content, take some time to analyze how well it performed. Look at website traffic, social media engagement, and conversion rates. You can make adjustments moving forward based on your findings.
I’ve been pretty bummed lately because I’m not getting much growth on my platforms. But I’ve analyzed my perfomance and I wonder if it’s because I’m trying to go for a paid membership right out of the gate without letting people see that I’m worth the investment. So I’m adjusting by putting all of my content to free for two weeks to hopefully gain more followers. I reward subscribers with weekly goodies.
Step Six: Rinse and Repeat
The best way to keep your content strategy effective is to constantly create new, fresh content. This doesn’t mean you have to publish a new blog post every day, but you should have a regular publishing schedule that you stick to. By continually releasing new content, you’ll keep people returning for more and eventually achieve your goals.
My favorite way to do this without overworking myself is by repurposing content. While I write about a new topic each week, I find ways to tailor my content to my different platforms throughout the week so it’s the same subject and material, just presented in various ways.
Consistency is vital if you want to be successful with content marketing. A well-thought-out content strategy will help you be consistent with your messaging and branding and keep you from wasting time.
After all, publishing content that doesn’t serve a purpose wastes time and resources. Following these six steps, you can create a content strategy to help you grow your business.
